CBD for Acne
According to the British Association of Dermatologists acne is estimated to affect 9.4% of the global population, making it the eighth most prevalent disease worldwide.
Factors like genetics, excessive sebum production, stress and diet may influence the intensity of acne.
Sebocytes are cells that create sebum, which is a waxy, oily substance produced inside the sebaceous glands. These glands are spread throughout the body but its mostly concentrated in the scalp and the face. Sebum is actually supposed to protect the skin from the outside world. But sebum can mix with dead skin cells, dirt and other substances floating in the air, clogging inside the pores and becoming acne.
So how does CBD help fight acne?
Evidence suggest that CBD may help with the treatment of acne due to its anti-inflammation properties and by balancing the production of sebum.
One study in 2014 found that CBD prevented sebocytes from producing too much of sebum. The study also showed that CBD oil antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties stopped cytokines from reacting preventing further breakouts. Cytokines may trigger acne when inflamed.
